First of all I’d just like say how excited I am to get started and to thank anyone reading for taking the time to read this blog. Secondly I’d also just like to say that all my ideas are from personal research, accumulated data and personal experience and I understand that there are so many different and conflicting ideas in the health and fitness industry and I don’t expect everyone to share every opinion. But hopefully there is something useful to walk away with which will help you on your quest to reach your goals, whatever they are.
My name is Craig and I am one of the tier 3 trainers at Aspire Health and Sports. If you haven’t been in yet, then I strongly recommend you do! The facility is unlike anything else in Tauranga or NZ for that matter. It is like training in a 5 star resort. I absolutely love working there and the quality of the facility is only matched by the people I get to work with.
I have been in Tauranga for a couple of years now and I originally come from Napier in the sunny Hawkes Bay. Tauranga is such a beautiful place and I’ve fallen head over heels for its beauty. I have been involved in training ever since I was a teenager and I have spent the best part of 15 years learning things first hand. It was’t until about 3 years ago that I decided that it was time to get out of the comfort of the building trade and pursue my real passion in applying all the wonderful tools I had learned to help enrich the live of others like it had done with mine. I moved down to Wellington and studied to be a personal trainer at the New Zealand Institute of sport. I met some truly amazing people down there, so a bit shout out goes to PT1 2013 as well as our amazing tutors Ben Montague and Beth Collings. After study, I began looking for a job up here which took 6 months, but I got a job working at snap. I worked there about 1 and a half years, but it wasn’t giving me the platform I needed to help people. I had heard about a flash new gym that they were going to build out in Bethlehem, so I did some research and fired off an email telling them about how I needed a gym that I could fully utilize my skills to help more people than I currently could. I soon got a friendly phone call from Marc and it was the beginning of what could only be described as a dream come true! I later met the rest of the board included Gilly himself (the head S and C coach of the All Blacks) and before I knew it, I was officially offered a position at Aspire health and Sports!
Personal training in Tauranga? Why use it?
Peaking in performance, changing body compositions or improving any component of health and fitness is a fine skill. It takes years to learn these mechanisms. You will save valuable time and money by hiring the right trainer. If your car breaks down, you generally send it to get fixed by a mechanic as they specialise in that particular field. Same applies with your body! Many people think that a personal trainer is too much of an expense. I say that any investment into improving your health is the best one you will ever make. Happiness, improving quality and adding years to your life is priceless!
What am like as a personal trainer?
I have worked with a variety of people from all walks of life as a PT. I have worked with clients with severe cerebral palsy to currently working with a young sprinter and his coach to try get him to the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. I have also worked with many normal people just trying to lose weight or improve their health and wellbeing. I am driven by results and I’m not happy unless my clients are getting a little bit closer to their goal each week. I believe that training and diet shouldn’t be horrible, it should be sustainable, if not fun. So I will only push a person as far as they are willing to go. Getting results with long term health as a priority is what I believe in, so preventing injury is a big key. I absolutely love my job and I strive to give the best possible service I can. I specialise in all types of strength and conditioning and have done a little bit of coaching as well as competing in powerlifting. No matter what type of training you are into and issues you may have, problem solving is what I like to do.
If you are interested in talking to me or finding out more, please don’t hesitate to contact me or talk to me at Aspire. I am always looking to help out or to take on new clients who are dedicated and keen to achieve their goals whether it be to perform their best in any strength sport, lose weight, gain lean muscle or just to improve general health, be confident and feel good.
I will be doing plenty more blogs in the future to help break down different aspects of training and nutrition. Thanks again for reading =)
